Mastering the Language of Scents: How to Pronounce ‘Cologne'

 


In English, The word “Cologne” is pronounced as kəˈloʊn

How to pronounce:

  • The first syllable is like the co-” in “comet”, pronounced as /kə/.
  • The second syllable is like “lone”, pronounced as /ˈloʊn/.
  •  If you’re speak“Köln” in German, city which sounds like "KUR-luhn".


In Korean,  "남자 향수 (men fragrance) is pronounced as namja hyangsu

How to pronounce:

  • 남자 (nam-ja): This means “man” or “male”.
  • 향수 (hyang-su): This means “perfume” or “fragrance”.

So, “남자 향수” would translate to “men’s fragrance” or “men’s perfume” in English. 


Importantly, you can emphasize ‘Nam’ and ‘hyang'. It's sound more like a native Korean speaker.
